‘Shop With A Cop’ Included Derby And Shelton Police Officers

Derby and Shelton police officers last week participated in two Shop with a Cop” events in the area.

Shop with a Cop” is an event organized by the Reach Foundation, based in Farmington.

The Reach Foundation is a 14-year-old non-profit group that helps kids in need.

The Reach Foundation was originally established to fund educational scholarships, continued education for educators, and programs that encourage social and civic responsibility in and out of the classroom,” according to the foundation’s website.

With Shop with a Cop,” a child is matched with a police officer to do some holiday shopping.

First the cop and the kid break bread together as a get-to-know-you. Then a line of officers and their new pals had in procession to Target.

At the store, the police officers helped the children shop for themselves, their family, as well as a child from the community where the police officer serves,” according to the website.

A number of police officers from Derby and Shelton volunteered to participate on Dec. 9 and Dec. 10.

Derby Officer Stephanie Kowalic and Officer Daniel Donston participated on Dec. 9 at the Southington Target.

Derby Officer Jordan Gochros (and Police K9 Bear) and Officer Bruce Giovanelli participated in the Dec. 10 event at the Milford Target.
