Linda Gentile (incumbent)

Party: Democrat

Details: Gentile is serving her fifth term as a state representative. Prior to being elected, she served as chief of staff and government liaison to the mayor of Ansonia from 1999 to 2004, and as a legislative aide for State Sen. Joe Crisco from 1995 to 1999. From 1977 to 1995, she worked as vice president of business development and government affairs for Centerbank.

Frederick Picroski (challenger)

Party: Republican

Details: A Derby resident and mainstay at public meetings, Picroski has been vocal about the city’s need to deal with blighted properties. He told the New Haven Register his biggest priorities if elected will be trying to effect reform in the way the state handles money, and improvements to Metro-North Railroad’s Waterbury line.
