State Police Investigate Route 8 Crash

State police are investigating a crash on Route 8 in Shelton that sent one person to the hospital with life-threatening injuries Tuesday afternoon.

A three-car crash was reported about 3:15 p.m. according to preliminary information from Trooper Kelly Grant, a public information officer with the state police.

The crash was first reported on Route 8 north, near exit 12.

A second, minor crash was reported a short time later.

An accident reconstruction team was on site as of 6:30 p.m. Major delays were reported on Route 8 north approaching the accident, with one lane of the highway open.

A badly-damaged SUV could be seen in the grassy median.

The initial reports indicated a child suffered serious injuries and that eight people total from both crashes were taken to the hospital.
