Several area residents have been recognized by regional athletic conferences for their academic success for Fall 2009 semester.

Two Derby residents have been named to the New England Collegiate Conference Academic All-Conference Team for the Fall 2009 semester.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must post a minimum grade point average of 3.40 on a 4.0 scale and must be at least a sophomore.

Kailee Hyde, a junior Human Development major at Mitchell College, and Kim Rogers, a sophomore Elementary Education major at Wheelock College, both residents of Derby, were among 153 students who received the honor.

The Northeast-10 Conference has also named area athletes to its Commissioner’s Honor Roll, which recognizes students who maintain at least a 3.0 GPA.

Valley residents who go to the University of New Haven were among 2,719 students named to that honor roll.

The students include: Nicole Downs from Seymour; Chelsea Harold from Oxford; Jordan Kershaw from Seymour; and Robert Pysz from Seymour.
