Study Skills Workshops Scheduled In Shelton

This summer, Shelton Parks and Recreation and Successful Study Skills 4 Students (S4) are proud to host two sessions of S4’s popular Essential Study Skills Workshops: one for middle school students, the other for high school students.

The workshop teaches students key study strategies that help them learn and achieve better academic success.

Both workshops will be held at the Shelton Recreation Center, 41 Church St., Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Aug. 25, 26, 27.

Middle school sessions will be from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and the high school sessions will be from 1 to 3 p.m.

The S4 program is founded on educational research and evidence-based studies. Its highly interactive approach is designed to clearly demonstrate how to apply students’ own curriculum and course material to the taught methodologies and systems. Each class is limited to 15 students.

Study skills are critical and the necessary foundation for academic success,” Brett Beatty of Shelton Parks & Recreation said. We are excited to make this successful program available for the first time to Shelton students and those from our neighboring communities so that they may learn these important tools — right before the start of school.”

Michelle Sagalyn, president of S4 said, Whether students are looking to acquire basic skills in organization, time management, and executive functioning strategies, or simply looking to improve their overall academic experience, these tools — when used — will help them succeed. Implementing even a single new tool has been shown to boost students’ motivation and academic performance.”

The S4 programs are designed to bolster academic confidence, motivation and preparation as academic workload and expectations increase rise. Skills taught include: planning, organizing, executive functioning strategies, as well as quiz, test, and long-term project preparation strategies.

Each three-session, six-hour workshop is $295. A 10 percent discount for second workshop or sibling is offered.

The workshops include all in-class materials, original S4 Teach Sheets for each skill taught, and post-parent emails after each session. Class size limited to 15.
