Suspect In Ansonia Assault, Kidnapping Pleads Not Guilty

The suspect in the kidnapping and beating of an Ansonia man pleaded not guilty Feb. 2.

Ansonia police charged Adan Llanos in December with first-degree kidnapping and first-degree assault.

He is accused of assaulting a man and then dumping him at Nolan Field off Wakelee Avenue. Llanos, 32, was charged after a five-month investigation.

The victim was left with a broken jaw, missing front teeth and internal bleeding.

Llanos is being held at MacDougall-Walker Correctional Institution in Suffield. He appeared in Superior Court in Milford, where more serious crimes are heard.

Llanos was represented by a public defender.

State’s Attorney Kevin Lawlor told Judge Frank Iannotti that, if convicted in the case, Llanos could face enhanced penalties under the state’s persistent dangerous felony offender laws.

According to the Judicial Branch website, Llanos was sentenced to serve seven years behind bars in 2008 after being convicted of first-degree robbery at Superior Court in Bridgeport.

And in April 2014, Llanos received a four-month jail sentence after pleading guilty to first-degree escape from custody, also at Superior Court in Bridgeport.

According to a warrant for Llanos’ arrest, both he and the alleged victim in the Ansonia case had past ties to the Latin Kings street gang, but authorities do not believe the assault was gang-related.

Llanos is scheduled to return to Superior Court in Milford Feb. 25.
