Suspect In Baby’s Death Surrenders

Angel Luis Santiago, 35, the man wanted in connection to the death of 5‑month-old Kyle Robinson of Ansonia, surrendered to police Monday afternoon.

Santiago arrived at the Ansonia Police Department at about 1 p.m.

He is being charged with first-degree manslaughter, first-degree assault and first-degree risk of injury.

Ansonia police announced Friday that they had obtained an arrest warrant for Santiago in connection to the baby’s June 12 death.

Santiago was the boyfriend of the baby’s mother, police said.

Kyle died June 12 of blunt force trauma to the head. The state’s medical examiner ruled the death a homicide.

For the last six months, detectives have been talking with doctors and child experts to get a strong enough case to apply for a warrant, according to Ansonia Police Lt. Andrew Cota.

Police said Santiago was caring for Kyle at a Hubbell Avenue residence when the baby died.

Santiago is a West Haven resident, according to police.

He is being held on a $1 million bond pending a Dec. 20 court date in Superior Court in Derby.

WFSBs Robert Goulston published a Tweet shortly before 1 p.m. saying he talked to Santiago just before he turned himself in.

That interview is scheduled to air on WFSB (channel 3) today (Monday, Dec. 19) at 5 p.m.
