Boy Scout Troop 3 Derby will be conducting two community service efforts on Saturday, Nov 18 at Stop & Shop in Ansonia.
They will be holding a Scouting for Food “Fill the Troop 3 Trailer” event, where they will be collecting food items for the St. Vincent de Paul’s Food Bank in Derby.
This event is in conjunction with the national Scouting For Food drive taking place throughout the USA.
They will also be collecting holiday care package items and donations to send to servicemen and women from the Lower Naugatuck Valley. The troop has been sending care packages annually since World War II, when more than 100 Troop 3 alumni were serving overseas.
“In Scouting, we are taught to do our good turn daily and to give back to others. This is our way of helping the hungry and showing support for those who are defending our freedom” stated Troop 3 Senior Patrol Leader Zack Thomas, 16, from Seymour. The scouts will be stationed at the Stop ‘n Shop from 8AM to 5PM.
Housatonic Council BSA’s Troop 3 was founded in 1914, and is sponsored by the Derby 2nd Congregational Church, where they meet on Wednesdays at 7PM.
