Two Arrested After Shelton Cops Chase Stolen Vehicle Into Derby

A Waterbury man was charged Tuesday with leading a Shelton detective on a chase into Derby afternoon in a van that had been stolen at gunpoint in New Haven.

In a prepared statement, police said that the detective saw 20-year-old Deion Lovett driving around downtown Shelton about 4 p.m. with the rear door to the vehicle wide open.”

The detective tried to stop Lovett, police said, but he sped off instead, leading the police officer on a chase into Derby.

The pursuit ended when Lovett eventually stopped on Route 34 in east Derby.

There were five juveniles in the car with Lovett, police said.

An investigation revealed the van was stolen at gunpoint in New Haven on June 12, according to Shelton police.

Police charged Lovett with first-degree larceny, engaging police in pursuit, and three counts of risk of injury to a minor.

Cops also charged one of the juveniles with first-degree larceny.

Court information on Lovett was not available late Wednesday.
