Two Finalists For Derby High School Principal Job

DERBY PUBLIC SCHOOLS WEBSITEThe Derby Board of Education could vote on a new principal for Derby High School by the end of the month.

There are two finalists for the job out of 32 initial applicants.

Superintendent Matthew Conway said two of the three rounds of interviews for the job have been completed. The first round consisted of interviews with a search committee comprised of school board members, parents, and teachers. There were more interviews in the second round, and the committee recommended two people proceed to round three.

The last interviews will be conducted with the school board on Jan. 27 — the same night the board could make a decision through a vote of the board.

Of the 32 applicants, we’re looking for individuals who have prior administrative experience,” Conway said.

The district started searching for a new principal after former principal Greg Gaillard suddenly resigned in December because of personal reasons.

At about the same time, the district started disciplinary procedures against the two top administrators at Derby Middle School for their handling of a written threat found in the school. The middle school administrators resigned, so they need to be replaced, too.

But first the district will hire a replacement for Gaillard at the high school.
