Valley Leaders To Be Jailed For A Good Cause

Several Valley leaders — including the Ansonia mayor and first selectmen in Oxford and Seymour — will spend time behind bars on Feb. 16, as they try to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

The MDA is hosting a Lock-Up” at Antonio’s Restaurant in Ansonia from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Feb. 16. 

Participants spend time behind bars at the restaurant, attempting to raise at least $2,400 in bail” to get out. 

The event aims to raise more than $20,000.

The following people are among the volunteers:

  • James Della Volpe — Mayor of Ansonia
  • Greg Gaillard — Principal of Derby High School
  • Kevin Hale — Chief of Police, Ansonia Police Department
  • Karen Fisher — owner of Karen A. Fisher Law
  • Matt Cassidy — owner of Peak Fitness
  • Sally Bonina — Principal of Derby Middle School
  • Terry Goldson — Principal of the Mead School in Ansonia
  • Paul Wetowitz — Fire Marshall, Town of Seymour
  • Eileen Krugel — Grant Writer for Town of Ansonia
  • Kurt Miller — First Selectman of Seymour
  • Betsy Quist — Woodbridge Tax Assessor
  • George Temple — First Selectman of Oxford

The MDA expects to have about 60 jailbirds” total participate in the event. 

MDA is the nonprofit health agency dedicated to curing muscular dystrophy, ALS and related diseases by funding worldwide research. The Association also provides comprehensive health care and support services, advocacy and education. 

MDA was created in 1950 by a group of adults with muscular dystrophy, parents of children with muscular dystrophy and a physician-scientist studying the disorder.
