American Legion Sutter-Terlizzi Post 16 will conduct Veterans Day services at The Riverwalk in Shelton and at Post 16.
“What we now call ‘Veterans Day’ began as ‘Armistice Day.’ It is historically significant that this day continue to be observed on the month, day and hour that the guns fell silent in World War I 11 a.m., Nov. 11, 1918,” Dave Gallagher, commander of Sutter-Terlizzi American Legion Post 16 of Shelton said.
“While the day has strong historical roots, current events continue to add meaning to the day. Today, men and women in uniform are providing humanitarian aid and rescuing victims of natural disasters. Some serve in war zones and risk their lives on a daily basis. Some are Reservists and some are in the National Guard. And while each takes pride in their branch of service, when an enemy threatens or a mission surfaces – they join together as one family and meet the challenge. That is what veterans do. Country first,” Gallagher said.
To mark Veterans Day in Shelton, Post 16 will conduct their annual Veterans Day Program on Saturday Nov. 11. Ceremonies will begin 10:30 a.m. at The Veterans’ Memorial on The Shelton Riverwalk followed by an 11:30 a.m. service and luncheon at Post 16, 295 Old Bridgeport Ave.
All are welcome to join in the ceremonies as well as the luncheon at Post 16.
