Veterans Day Observances 2015

Wednesday is Veterans Day.

Here is a list of local observances.

Ansonia

The Gordon-Visselli American Legion Post 50, Ansonia, is hosting the city’s annual Veterans Day Ceremony Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. in Veterans Park, next to Ansonia City Hall, 253 Main St.

They invite veterans and the public throughout the Valley to attend and help recognize those men and women who have served their country in military service at great sacrifice to themselves and their families. 

The American Legion is proud to host this ceremony as well as participate in all patriotic, military and veteran events and causes which bring public awareness to those who have served and continue to serve in the uniform of their country.

Derby

The American Legion, John H. Collins Post 24, will host a Veterans Day Ceremony on the Derby Green (Elizabeth Street) on Wednesday, Nov. 11 at 10:30 a.m.

Refreshments will be served after the ceremony at the Veterans Memorial Building.

NOTE: Derby officials say that if it’s still raining at 10:30 a.m., the ceremony will be outside the Veterans building at Atwater and Seymour avenues.

Seymour

American Legion Emil Senger Post 10 will be post the colors outside Seymour Middle School early Nov. 11 in front of students and faculty.

At 9:30 a.m. Post 10 will conduct services on the Bank Street bridge by casting a wreath honoring Navy veterans lost at sea.

At 11 A.M. Post 10 will commence services (11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month ) marking Veterans Day at French Memorial Park, 74 Spruce St.

Separately, VFW Post 12084 is planning a candlelight vigil at 7 p.m. Nov. 11 at Broad Street Park, at Broad and River streets.

Shelton

American Legion Post 16’s annual Veterans Day Ceremonies will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 11th. 

Ceremonies will begin at 10:30 a.m. at The Veterans’ Memorial on The Shelton Riverwalk in Shelton. 

The unit will then proceed to Post 16 for 11:30 a.m. services and luncheon at Post 16 on Bridgeport Avenue in Shelton. 

After the luncheon, members of Post 16 will visit Shelton Intermediate School.
