Woman Taken To Hospital After Ansonia House Fire

Photo: Eugene DriscollA woman was rushed to Bridgeport Hospital after a house fire on Webster Drive Friday.

The woman was burned, but her injuries were described as minor.

Her name was not released.

The fire was reported within a single-family house about 7 p.m. at 31 Webster Drive, near Emmett O’Brien Technical High School.

Ansonia Fire Marshal Ray Tingley was the first on scene. As of 8 p.m. he was investigating the cause and origin.

The fire may have started in the kitchen.

Assistant Fire Chief Edward Adamowski said smoke could be seen coming from the rear of the home when firefighters arrived. They went into the house through the front door and carried in hoses to extinguish the flames.

The fire was deemed under control in about 10 minutes, Adamowski said. Firefighters from Derby responded to the scene as well.

It (fire damage) was contained to the kitchen area at this point,” Adamowksi said.

He wasn’t sure how many people were inside the house when the fire started.

Smoke or water damage is probable in the living room.

According to publicly-available assessor records, the 53-year-old raised ranch-style house is owned by Madeline Bottone, the former Ansonia Town Clerk.

Further information wasn’t available Friday.
