Sgt. Orville Smith—Shelton Police Officer

Orville “Buddy” or “Smitty” Smith Jr., age 64, husband of Nancy Wilson Smith and resident of Oxford, died July 7.

He was born June 19, 1946 in Derby, son of the late Orville Smith Sr. and Barbara Huggins Smith.

A U.S. Marine Veteran of the Vietnam War, Orville was a 39 year veteran of the Shelton Police Department.

He was also President of the Shelton Police Association and coordinator of the Police Dept. Memorial Day services. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Ansonia, the Blue Knights International and the White Hills Fire Department in Shelton, where he was also a past captain.

In addition to his wife, he leaves his son Robert Carpp of Beacon Falls, daughter Nicole Simpson of Shelton, sister Barbara Maloney of Ansonia, four grandchildren Robert, Ashley, Gabby and Jim and nieces Barbara Maloney and Debbie DeBiase and nephew Paul Maloney.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 13 at 11:00 a.m. at Shelton High School, 120 Meadow St., where military honors will be accorded.

He will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Calling hours will be held on Monday, 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Shelton High School.

The Jenkins King & Malerba Funeral Home, (www.jenkinskingfh.com) 12 Franklin St. Ansonia has been be entrusted with the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sgt. Smith Police Equipment Fund c/o the Shelton Police Dept. or the White Hills Fire Dept. through the funeral home.
