James “Jay” G. Fitzpatrick, age 79, of Shelton, entered into rest on Friday, August 1, 2025 at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport. He is the beloved husband of 55 years of Diane E. (Ducsay) Fitzpatrick. Jay was born in Bridgeport on August 12, 1945, son of the late James Joseph and Dorothy (Beigert) Fitzpatrick. He resided in Shelton for the past 50 years.
He served his country in the 82nd Airborne Division of the United States Army during the Vietnam War. After leaving active service, Jay served with the Army National Guard in Ansonia.
He worked for the Town of Trumbull for many years in the Highway Department and as Highways Supervisor and then worked at the Transfer Station prior to retirement. Jay was a longtime volunteer member and past Captain of the Pine Rock Park Fire Department. He was also a member of the Greyson Gun Club in Orange. Jay loved spending time with his family, and particularly loved being with his grandson, watching TV.
He is the beloved father of Jay Fitzpatrick and his wife Sharon of Ansonia, and Paul Fitzpatrick and his wife Meghan of Hamden, and proud grandfather of Collin James Fitzpatrick. He is also survived by a sister, Dorothy Martino, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Valerie Caloggi.
Friends may greet the family at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road, Shelton, on Wednesday from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM. His funeral service will begin in the parlor at 11:30 AM.
