Thomas J. Kane, age 83, of Derby, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2025. He was the beloved husband of Elaine (Massaro) Kane. Tom proudly served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Taconic.

He traveled to many destinations including Greece, Italy, and Spain. Following a career in roofing and construction, he enjoyed model ship repair and restoration. He was a member of the CT Marine Model Society serving as president and vice president during his membership.

He was also a member of the New Haven and Derby Model Railroad Club where he worked on modular train scenes and served as president. During the Christmas holiday season, he volunteered at the Branford Trolley Museum where he loved entertaining visitors as Santa Claus during their class trips. He was even convinced to play the Easter bunny once or twice too. He continued his joy of traveling with his wife and visited all 50 U.S. states mostly by driving cross country stopping to visit family and friends along the way. He also enjoyed volunteering at Griffin Hospital shuttling visitors from the parking lot to the hospital entrance.

In addition to his wife, Elaine, he is survived by his daughter, Darlene Kane of Meriden, and his son Thomas J. Kane Jr. of Derby along with several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, John E. Kane and Helena (Campbell) Kane, brother, John E. Kane Jr. and sister, Irene (Kane) Forshaw.Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family and pay their respects on Monday September 8, 2025, from 4:00-7:00 pm in the chapel of SPINELLI-RICCIUTI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia.

On Tuesday morning at 10:30 am, a prayer service in celebration of Tom’s life will take place in the funeral home with Deacon Victor Lembo officiating. Interment with United States Navy military honors will immediately follow in the State Veterans Cemetery, 317 Bow Lane in Middletown.
