ANSONIA – There are no receipts connected to the slashing of Mayor David Cassetti’s tires over the summer, according to city staff, and police said no arrests have been made.

The Valley Indy reported in August that police were investigating a report of vandalism targeting the mayor after he said two of the tires on his city-issued vehicle were slashed outside his house.

There have been no leads in the criminal investigation.

“The case is still open, we are still checking for video,” Lt. Patrick Lynch said in a message. “However, so far we have no suspects, video of the incident, or other physical evidence related to the incident.”

Why Is This News Now?

After the crime, the mayor told The Valley Indy he had the city pay for the repairs.

The Valley Indy had submitted a freedom of information request seeking access to the documents on Aug. 19. The city, through Ansonia Corporation Council John Marini, answered with a letter on Nov. 14.

“Please be informed that the City maintains no materials responsive to the request,” the letter states.

In a subsequent interview, Marini said he had asked the finance office if they had any receipts connected to the tire-slashing incident. The finance office employees said they did not.
