SEYMOUR – Everyone is welcome at Vox Church.

That’s the message Jermaine Sheppherd, associate campus pastor at the church’s new location in Seymour, wants to share with everyone looking for a welcoming place to worship.

“The Valley isn’t just a place on the map, it’s home to people we love, people we believe Jesus died for, and people whose lives can be radically transformed by the power of the Gospel,” Sheppherd told the Valley Indy via an email.

Seymour is the 13th location that Vox Church has opened since it was founded in New Haven in 2011.

The church held its inaugural Sunday services on Nov. 16 in space they’re renting from the Marine Corps League at 56 West St. Sheppherd said more than 300 people from around the Naugatuck Valley attended the services, which are held at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Sundays.

Vox Church, according to its website, is a non-denominational Christian church operating throughout Connecticut and Massachusetts.

Sheppherd, an Ansonia resident, and his wife Kisha, said they’ve both been involved with Vox Church since its early days in New Haven, and that they’re excited to bring a new location to the Valley.

“This isn’t just about planting a church, it’s about bringing hope where there’s hurt, light where there’s darkness and healing where there’s brokenness,” Sheppherd said. “We love our neighbors. We care deeply about this town. And we believe with everything in us that God wants to do something new right here in the Valley.”

The church’s members recently partnered with the Seymour-Oxford Food Bank to help collect food for families in need on Thanksgiving. Sheppherd said service is part of the church’s mission.

“We’re excited to begin loving and serving our community and we look forward to continuing to care for our neighbors and community,” Sheppherd said.

In addition to Sunday worship services, the church offers children’s programs every Sunday for kids ages six months to fifth grade. The church also offers various weekly community groups.

According to its website, Vox Church was founded in 2011 by lead Pastor Justin Kendrick, his wife Chrisy and a small group of friends. In addition to the new Seymour location, Vox Church is in New Haven, Branford, Middletown, Hartford and a few locations in Massachusetts.
