Seymour Town Hall

SEYMOUR – The Seymour Board of Selectpersons held its first meeting of 2026 Tuesday (Jan. 6). Here are a few highlights:

Planning For The Future

The selectpersons unanimously approved spending $75,000 to have Naugatuck Valley Council of Governments compile the town’s Plan of Conservation and Development. State statute requires towns and cities to have an updated plan every 10 years. The town hired NVCOG to create Seymour’s last plan, according to First Selectwoman Annmarie Drugonis. The plan needs to be completed by Dec. 31.

“The (NVCOG) know the area and worked hand in hand with us on our last plan,” Drugonis said. “The plan is not something that can be done in house, and the town does not have the bandwidth or the people to do this. Having a plan helps to balance economic growth with the preservation of natural resources and the quality of life.”

Drugonis said NVCOG will engage with residents in developing the plan. For example, it will send out surveys, asking what types of businesses, housing and recreation, residents want to see in Seymour.

Snow Business

With Mother Nature delivering a hefty wintry punch over the last few weeks, Drugonis reminded residents and business owners to follow the rules when it comes to clearing snow from sidewalks in a timely manner.

The town has an ordinance that requires snow be removed from sidewalks in front of residents’ properties, and in front of businesses (where business owners are responsible to clear snow in front of their stores) within 24 hours after a snowstorm. Drugonis said police have the authority to issue $100 fines for those who don’t comply.

In addition to clearing sidewalks, Drugonis also reminded residents, including private snow plowing contractors, not to throw snow into the road.

“Our (town) plows clear the roads and then some contractors who clear driveways come in later and throw snow in the road, so please don’t throw snow in the road,” Drugonis said. “We have an ordinance that says you can’t throw snow in the road. Police will be enforcing this ordinance. If anybody is caught putting snow in the road, they will receive a ($100) fine.”

Road Repairs

The selectpersons unanimously approved a request from the town’s Public Works Department to use $15,000 in state Local Capital Improvement Program funds (LOCIP) for various road repairs throughout town. Drugonis said a list of roads up for either paving, pothole repairs or related road fixes, was not yet available.

Coming Attractions

Drugonis said there’s plenty of activities on tap for residents in 2026, from pickleball to roller skating. She said a list of upcoming events are listed on the town’s website under the community calendar. Here’s a quick preview of some of the January events:
