ANSONIA – Here’s a list of cancellations and delays due to this weekend’s forecasted winter storm. This list will be updated as cancellations are announced.

5:06 p.m. Monday (Jan. 26)

This is a Code Red Message from the City of Ansonia.

The City of Ansonia is in the process of cleaning up the aftermath of the snowstorm.

The parking ban will be lifted at 11:00 pm tonight. After 11:00 pm, the City of Ansonia will return to the normal winter parking regulations.

Due to the large amount of snow, the cleanup will continue for days.

Roadways have been narrowed, do not park your vehicle on the street if it is blocking the travel portion of the roadway. While parking will be allowed on City streets in compliance with the winter parking regulations, it is important that parked vehicles do not block the travel portion of the roadway.

Ansonia Public Schools will be closed on Tuesday. Any vehicle parked in any school parking lot needs to be removed by 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday so that the Board of Education can clean the lots to work on reopening the schools.

If your vehicle is currently parked in a municipal parking lot, other than a school lot, it may remain there if parking on your street is not an option. You are still required to clean off your vehicle if it is parked in a municipal lot.

If you have a fire hydrant in front of your residence or building, please assist the fire department in removing snow from around the fire hydrant.

Trash pickup will resume on Tuesday.

All city buildings will be open on Tuesday.

As a reminder, shoveling, plowing or blowing snow into the roadway is against the law. This also will create road hazards.

Residents and businesses are reminded to shovel snow from their sidewalks within 12 hours of the end of the storm.

Remember to clean the snow off of your vehicles before driving them on any roadway, it is against the law in the State of Connecticut to drive a vehicle with snow blowing off the vehicle, endangering other drivers.

Additional announcements will be sent as needed.

Thank you, City of Ansonia

6:43 p.m. Sunday (Jan. 25)

This is a Code Red alert from the City of Ansonia.

The State of Connecticut is being impacted by a winter blizzard which will continue into Monday. Weather services are forecasting that we will receive well over a foot of snow during the storm with the heaviest of the snow over the next couple of hours.

Additionally, the forcast shows the possibility of ice and freezing rain tonight. Road crews have begun clearing roadways and this will continue throughout the storm.

Residents are encouraged to limit their driving on city roads during the storm to allow for emergency vehicles and road crews to perform their functions.

All emergencies should be reported to the Ansonia Police Department at 203-735-1885. Any stranded motorists should immediately contact the police department.

There is a current parking ban on all city streets until 11:00 pm on Monday. Residents are reminded that no vehicle may be parked on a city street during this time.

All public and school parking lots are open for parking.

All Ansonia schools are closed on Monday.

All non-essential City of Ansonia buildings are closed on Monday.

As a reminder, if the use of a generator is needed, please be sure to have it properly ventilated outside of your residence. All exterior vents for furnaces and dryers should be cleared of snow to prevent carbon dioxide build-up.

Residents are asked to check on their elderly neighbors who may have difficulty at their residences. Again, please stay off the roads as driving conditions have deteriorated.

Thank you, City of Ansonia

4:58 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 24)

This is a Code Red Message from the City of Ansonia.

We are going to be experiencing a significant winter storm beginning early tomorrow morning and into Monday. Accumulation estimates vary but our area is expected to get over a foot of snow. The storm track is also calling for frozen rain and gusts during the storm. The possibility of accumulating ice has been included in the forecast. These accumulation totals will make it difficult for emergency vehicles and plows to work on City Streets.

In anticipation of this winter storm, there will be a full parking ban on all city streets starting this evening at 7:00 pm until Monday night, January 26th at 11:00 pm. These times may be extended based on the track of the storm. All residents must remove their vehicles from the street to assist with plowing and emergency services by 7:00 pm this evening.

Vehicles in violation will be ticketed and towed at owner’s expense, beginning Saturday night. During the storm, all city parking lots including municipal lots, Nolan Field and Board of Education lots will be open for resident parking. Vehicles parked in the school lots should be removed by at the end of the parking ban as the roads are cleared. Please remember to assist your neighbors and make sure that your vehicles are off the road.

If you have a fire hydrant in front of your residence or building, please assist the fire department in removing snow from around the fire hydrant, if possible. Trash pickup for Monday will be postponed until Tuesday.

A decision on Ansonia Public Schools will be made on Sunday afternoon. All city buildings will be closed on Monday except for essential personnel. Please remember that it is essential that all vehicles are removed from City streets during the parking ban.

Thank you, City of Ansonia
