ANSONIA –  The cause and origin of a house fire that displaced four people on Fifth Street Jan. 31 has not been determined.

No injuries were reported.

β€œIt was a serious fire. It was basically the back of the house, the back porches, and it extended up into the eaves and into the attic of the house,” Deputy Fire Marshal Joseph Kingston said.

Crews were sent to 6 Fifth St. at 12:43 p.m. after getting a call regarding smoke in the building. Responding firefighters encountered heavy flames on the second and third floors in the back of the building.

The three story, three-family house was built in 1880, according to tax assessment records. It has 11 rooms total and a little more than 2,500 square feet of living space.Click here for a previous Valley Indy story.
