Derby, CT – State Representative Kara Rochelle is encouraging adults seeking career opportunities in manufacturing to sign up for a free, local manufacturing training program. The Advanced Manufacturing Certificate Program will hold an Intro to Manufacturing Program at Derby High School, free for eligible community members 18 and up. The program will start on April 21st and will run through July 30th, from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday nights. Sign-ups are happening now.

“This program is a real opportunity for those seeking a career, not just a job, and want financial stability,” said Representative Rochelle. “Manufacturing provides good, middle-class jobs, and I am proud to bring this opportunity to our community, so residents have a clear pathway into the middle class. This is an opportunity for real professional advancement, and I hope we can pack this class and get people on the path to a stronger economic future.”

The program is designed to teach the foundations of precision manufacturing to equip participants with the knowledge and skills required to start an entry-level position in the field. Students in the program will have the opportunity to learn in a state-of-the-art manufacturing lab, gaining hands-on experience. The manufacturing industry is experiencing a workforce shortage and an aging workforce. Those who complete the program in Derby will receive an Advanced Manufacturing certificate from Housatonic Community College.

Valley residents interested in starting a career in manufacturing, particularly those who are unemployed or under-employed and seeking to make a career upgrade, should register for this free Intro to Manufacturing program to gain the training required for a good-paying career in manufacturing.

Representative Rochelle initiated the effort to establish this program for local adults and secured the necessary state resources to hold this program in the community. She partnered with the State of Connecticut Department of Labor, the WorkPlace, and instructors through Housatonic Community College to bring this program to fruition.
