Shirley J. (Brown) Gaboriault, age 87, formerly of Seymour, CT, passed away peacefully after a long battle with Alzheimer’s on Monday, February 23, 2026, at Bishop Wicke in Shelton, CT.
Born August 21, 1938, in Starksboro, VT, she was the wife of the late Richard W. Gaboriault and daughter of the late James Ira Brown and Ruth (Martin) Brown. A devoted mother and grandmother, Shirley was a Communicant of the Church of the Assumption and retired from Griffin Hospital. She found her greatest joy in crafts, games, hosting large family dinners and holidays.
Shirley is survived by her children: daughter Theresa (Delbert) Kirk of Prospect; and sons Stephen (Missy) Gaboriault of Ansonia, Richard J. (Sue) Gaboriault of Stratford, and Randy Gaboriault of Bethany. She leaves behind nine grandchildren: Laura, Stephen, Jonathan, Kristina, Danielle, Jenna, Chelsea, Jake, and Gabrielle; seven great-grandchildren: Joshua, Daniel, Nathan, Cheyenne, Ryan, Hunter, and Dahlia. She was predeceased by her husband Richard, her son Rodney, her sisters, Viola (Brown) Badell and Leola (Brown) Weston.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, March 5th at 10:00 AM in the Church of the Assumption 23 No Cliff St Ansonia CT. The family will receive visitors prior to the mass from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM in the church. Burial will follow in Mount St. Peter’s Cemetery.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Bennett Funeral Home 91 No Cliff St Ansonia, CT 06401 In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Church of the Assumption or the Alzheimer’s Association Connecticut Chapter through the funeral home.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff at Wesley Heights and Bishop Wicke Pavilion Three for their compassionate and loving care given to Shirley over the past eight years.
