Diane Evans, age 86, of Shelton, peacefully entered into rest in her home on Saturday, March 7, 2026. She was the devoted wife of 45 years to the late Stephen Andrew Evans. Diane was born in Bridgeport on September 13, 1939, daughter of the late Laurens Vernes and Ella (Dougherty) Vernes, and lived in Shelton for over 60 years.

In her early years, Diane worked at the Singer Sewing Machine factory where she met her future sister-in-law and, subsequently, her husband Andy.

Later, she worked as a supervisor for the Accounts Payable Department at Philips Medical Systems in Shelton for approximately 30+ years. She made many lifelong friendships there, and loved playing on the softball team where she won the M.V.P. award one year.

She also served as a librarian in Shelton for approximately ten years before retiring.

She was very creative and had many hobbies, excelling at needlework, crafting, sewing, knitting, et cetera. Even teaching the art of Pysanki, Ukrainian egg dying.

Diane lived a wonderfully active lifestyle and enjoyed golfing, gardening, and swimming in her pool. She was a loyal NY Giants and Boston Red Sox Fan.

Diane was a woman who taught love and forgiveness throughout her life, not with words, but with actions. She taught us all the importance of family and provided us with the loving space to be one. For generations.

She was our North Star and hero, leaving behind an immeasurable void.

She is the beloved mother of Kurt Evans and Karen Evans and her husband Paul Lebinski, and the cherished sister of Terrence Vernes and Robert Lombard. Diane is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews, all of whom she loved dearly. She was predeceased by three siblings, Joyce Jerauld, Roy Knowles, and Nancy Knowles.

Friends are invited to greet the family at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road, Shelton, on Friday, March 13, from 4 to 7 PM.

Memorial contributions are encouraged to Stratford Animal Rescue Society.
