ANSONIA/DERBY – Police said four people were injured in a crash near Pershing Drive and Division Street Sunday (March 8), with one person in critical condition.
According to a prepared statement Tuesday (March 10), police were alerted around 4:30 p.m. Sunday to a crash involving a Jeep.
Police said the Jeep struck another car near Bridge Street and West Main Street, then left the scene heading toward Pershing Drive.
Near the intersection of Pershing Drive and Division Street, the Jeep had struck two more cars, then hit a pole and caught fire. First responders found four injured people inside the Jeep, one with serious head and neck injuries.
Police did not release the names of anyone injured nor report if any arrests were made.
About five ambulances were called to the scene because of the number of victims. The road was closed for nearly seven hours after the accident.
In addition to Ansonia police, fire, and EMS, responders included members of the Derby Police Department. The Fairfield Police Department Crash Reconstruction Team is aiding in an ongoing investigation.
