SEYMOUR: Nancy Felicia (DeMartino) Evans, age 96, an extraordinary woman, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2026, with her loving family by her side at Cambridge Health and Rehabilitation Center in Fairfield She was the beloved wife of twenty-eight years to the late Henry M. Evans.
Born in Derby on July 31, 1929, to Frank and Raphaela (Donnarummo) DeMartino, Nancy was a lifelong Valley resident until the last decade of her life, when she moved to Stratford to be closer to her daughter, Ann-Marie Evans.
Nancy graduated from Ansonia High School in 1941 and attended the Katherine Gibbs School. She worked as a secretary in the machine shop at The Farrell Corporation until she met and married the love of her life, Henry, and embraced her most cherished role—being a mother. Later, she found her greatest joy as a devoted grandmother.
A devout Catholic, Nancy was a communicant of Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia, a lifetime member of the Ladies Guild, an active participant in the Prayer Shawl group and enjoyed playing in the women’s bocce league. Her unwavering faith in God guided her throughout her life and made her an incredible mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, cousin, friend, and neighbor. Affectionately known as “Mima” to her grandchildren, Nancy shared her love through her faith and her wonderful Italian cooking. When she was not in the kitchen, she could be found cheering on her favorite teams—the New York Yankees and the UConn Women’s Basketball team. Her family and friends were blessed to have her for so many years, and her warmth, strength, and spirit will remain with us forever.
Nancy was predeceased by her husband and her brothers, William and Frank DeMartino. She is survived and will be deeply missed by her daughter, Ann-Marie; her grandchildren, Shannon Saranich of Ellington, and Kara Saranich of Stratford as well as several nieces and nephews, and a great-niece, Nicole Goncalves, who held a special place in her heart.
