SEYMOUR –- Seymour Public Library welcomes Steinhagen Pottery on Saturday, March 28th for two special programs. From 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Erich Steinhagen will be presenting a Live “Colonial” Pottery Demonstration. Janice Steinhagen will follow with her Live “Colonial” Textile/Spinning Demonstration from 1 p.m.- 3 p.m. Both of these events are free and do not need registration. Space is on a first come-first serve basis.
Join us from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. as Erich and Janice discuss the history behind their wares and their historically-inspired pieces. Erich’s potter’s wheel will be front and center as he demonstrates his process of throwing pots and discusses the later steps in making finished pieces.
From 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Janice’s spinning wheel will take the spotlight as she speaks of fabric making in the colonial period. Janice will focus on wool, flax and cotton and describe how they’re sourced and prepared. Attendees will get to see how fibers are spun into yarn on both the drop spindle and the spinning wheel. A table loom will be present as well and Janice will speak on how fabric production of that time period meshed with the political and social aspects of the 18th century.
