Steven Dobrowski, 80, passed away on March 25, 2026, at Yale- New Haven Hospital following a brief illness. A lifelong Ansonia resident, Steve lived a full and vibrant life defined by hard work, loyalty, and a deep love for his family, friends, and community.
He was born in Ansonia on May 28,1945, to parents Steven and Stefie Siemietkowski Dobrowski. He graduated from Ansonia High School in 1963 and went on to proudly serve his country as an MP in the U.S. Army National Guard during the Vietnam era, demonstrating the same sense of duty and commitment that he would carry through the rest of his life.
Steve shared a lifelong love story with his high school sweetheart, Marcia J. Ploski Dobrowski. The two were married in 1970 and built a life grounded in family, stability, and the “occasional” bickering. In 1977, they welcomed their son, Steven, who became the center of their world. Steve remained by Marcia’s side with unwavering love and care until her final breath in 2017, a testament to the strength of their bond.
Steve was a natural craftsman with a strong work ethic and a gift for working with his hands. He spent many years in home improvement, helping countless families create and care for their homes. He retired in 2013 from Carroll’s Home Improvement, leaving behind a reputation for quality work and reliability.
Outside of work, Steve embraced life with energy and enthusiasm. He was a longtime member of the Meriden Motorcycle Club and had a passion for riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycles. For over 50 years, he made the annual trip to Laconia Bike Week with family and friends—a tradition that brought him great joy.
Above all, Steve’s greatest sense of pride and community was found in the Polish Falcons of America. A proud member since November 1959, he was a cornerstone of Nest 36 in Ansonia. Whether he was bartending, playing cribbage or pool, or enjoying his signature Lord Calvert and ginger, Steve was always in his element among friends. His dedication to the organization never wavered—he served as Vice President of the nest for the past decade, achieved Gold Legion of Honor status, and in 2022 was an inaugural recipient of the Falcons’ highest honor, the “Beyond the Gold Award.” His presence there will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his son, Steve Adam Dobrowski; his sister, Carole McNish; his nephews, Bill McNish and Ken (Rosemary) McNish, Walter Ploski and Stephen Ploski; his goddaughter, Kimberly Chmura; and his godson, Todd Doiron. He also leaves behind a wide circle of extended family and dear friends who will remember his humor, stubbornness, generosity, and his love of living life on his own terms. In addition to his spouse, Steve was predeceased by his brother-in-law, William McNish.
He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.Family and friends may call on Sunday, March 29, 2026 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia.
