Halyna (Helen) Fedoruk, 74, passed away the evening of March 27th in Cape Cod with her loving husband Ron by her side. They had been married for 54 years.
Halyna had a great love for learning and teaching, going back to school in her late 30’s to persue her masters degree in education at SCSU. Halyna was a middle school teacher, specializing in math and science instruction at multiple schools throughout Connecticut including Ansonia Middle School, 6 to 6 Magnet School in Bridgeport, St Lawrence School in West Haven and St. Mary / St. Michael in Derby.
Halyna loved to entertain. She hosted many holidays and special occasions at her home in Oxford alongside her husband before both retired to Cape Cod. She had strong ties to her Ukraininan heritage, and passed many traditions down to her daughters. Halyna was an active volunteer for Special Olympics and Habitat for Humanity. She taught CCD classes for St. Augustine Church and was a troop leader for Connecticut Girl Scouts.
Halyna loved the warmth of the sun on her face and going for rides around the neighborhood to look at her hydrangeas. She kept strong ties with her friends, participating in trivial pursuit game nights and vacationing with the group. She loved to laugh and was always ready with a witty comback. She will be remembered by a multitude of loving friends whom have always held her in their hearts. Halyna was a fighter and faced each challenge with courage, dignity, grace and humor. She battled back from multiple diagnoses that should have ended her life.
Halyna was an avid reader and theater lover. She could be found listening to audio books when she could no longer read physical copies.
She leaves behind her husband, Ron Fedoruk, and two daughters Kate (Mosquera) Fedoruk and Kristina Fedoruk; a brother, Oleh Podryhula and his wife Linda as well as a sister, Olga Morgan; along with multiple nieces, grandnieces and one grandnephew that will all miss her terribly.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 4 at 10:00 a.m. from The Jenkins King & Malerba Funeral Home, 12 Franklin St. Ansonia. Burial will follow in Mt. St. Peter Cemetery in Derby. Friends may call on Friday April 3, (Good Friday) from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in her name to readtogrow.org.
