John Patrick Edgeworth, age 59, of Shelton, entered into rest on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, in his home. John was born in Bridgeport on July 19, 1966, son of the late Joseph and Sophia (Panizari) Edgeworth, and lived in Shelton for all of his life.
John was a professional machinist and operated many types of tool and dye machines throughout his 30 plus years career. He worked at Forster Precision Tool in Naugatuck, CT.
John was an avid sports fan especially interested in golf, hockey and baseball. He played hockey at Shelton High School and in adult leagues after graduating. John was an excellent golfer and won several local team tournaments.
Gardening was a passion for John. He took great pride in keeping his lawn as pristine as possible, like a golf course or baseball infield. Every year John grew a wide variety of vegetables and herbs and loved to make his own home grown pickles. Last year’s patch was particularly delicious, spicy and very crunchy. Our Thanksgiving table was always blessed with John’s turnip which he harvested from his garden. It will be sadly missed.
He loved rose bushes and had several beautiful plants in the front yard that produced flowers throughout the summer and fall. He also made sure to plant Cosmos flowers in honor of our sister Patty. They were her favorite flowers.
John loved to spend quiet moments fishing in lakes and rivers, catching trout, large and small mouth bass, perch and striped bass.
John loved working with his hands and you would often find John in his garage tinkering with small engines and machinery. He could repair anything motorized, from lawn mowers to weed whackers, chain saws to snowplows. He would gladly repair them for friends and family. He would even bring home items he found along the roadside being thrown away. John would figure out what was wrong, get it working and gift it to someone.
John was extremely generous with his time and would always help friends and family with any task.
He is survived by a brother, David Edgeworth, three sisters, Linda Fabiam , Karen Keys (James), and Jody Ciesco (Rocco), seven cherished nieces and nephews, Sarah Fabian, Christopher Keyes (Sarah), Amanda Keyes, Matthew Keyes, Lauren Ciesco, Richard Ciesco (Laura), and Ashley Sala (Steven), and numerous grand nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his beloved cat, Buddy.
Friends are invited to greet the family at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road, Shelton, on Friday, April 10, 2026 from 4:00 to 6:30 PM. A funeral service will begin in the parlor at 6:30 PM
