Robert Rosaire Genest, age 82, of Shelton, entered into rest on Friday, April 17, 2026, at his home in Shelton. He was the beloved husband of over 60 years to Suzzanne (Rivera) Genest. Robert was born in Oskélanéo River, Canada on September 6, 1943, son of the late Albert J. and Alma (Grenon) Genest, before immigrating to Connecticut in the late 50’s.
He had a long career as a long-haul trucker, and was a member of the Teamsters for over forty years. Robert was an avid outdoorsman, and loved to hunt and fish. He also loved to tinker, and could work on anything.
He is the beloved father of John Genest and Michele Ferraro, cherished grandfather of Dante and Christian Handel, and proud great-grandfather of Ava and Sadie Handel. He is also survived by three brothers, Leo- Paul, Marcel and Claude Genest, a sister, Pauline Genest, and many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by four brothers, Rene, Gaetan, Roland and Roger Genest and a sister, Simone Crespo.
Friends may greet the family at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road, Shelton, on Friday from 4 to 7 PM. On Saturday his procession will leave the parlor at 9:00 AM for a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Church in Shelton at 9:30 AM. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Shelton.
