Ana Ibelise Payero, age 73, beloved wife of Ramon Ascension Payero of Seymour, died
peacefully on April 21, 2026, at Griffin Hospital with her family by her side. Born in Bani,
Dominican Republic on July 25, 1952, she was the daughter of the late Juan and Aurora
Mejia. Mrs. Payero immigrated to the United States in 1970, settling in New York City
until moving to Seymour in 2018. She was a homemaker, a devoted mother and
grandmother who enjoyed singing and dancing. She handcrafted countless crocheted
heirlooms for her family and friends and made every Christmas spectacular. She was
especially proud of her collection of over 100 Santa Clauses, being able to display most
of them all at once! In addition to her spouse of 43 years, she is survived by her
devoted children, Monica Pena of Seymour, Thomas Payero and his wife, Leanne, of
Staten Island, NY and Juan Carlos Payero and his wife, Nicole, of Portsmouth, RI;
siblings, Dilcia Jerez and her husband, Eduardo, Opilson Mejia and his wife, Ana,
Maritza Mejia, and Nancy Mejia, all of the Dominican Republic; cherished grandchildren,
Karolina Guerrero, Olivia Figueroa, Lucas Figueroa, Quinn Payero and Caleb Payero;
and great-granddaughters, Elianna and Genevieve Elizalde; as well as several nieces
and nephews.
Family and friends may call on Sunday, April 26, 2026, from 2:00 to 5:00 PM at the
Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia. Funeral services will
take place on Monday, April 27, 2026 at 9:00 AM from the Wakelee Memorial Funeral
Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM in St. Mary Church of
the Our Lady Queen of the Apostles Parish, 212 Elizabeth Street, Derby. Interment will
