DERBY — A match has been found for the Derby volunteer firefighter in need of a kidney transplant.

Chris Matto is a volunteer firefighter and father of two with kidney disease. His family announced Friday (May 1) that a matching donor has been identified. The potential donor is related to Chris.

“This family member is scheduled to go to the Yale transplant center this Thursday to receive more information about the process, ask questions, and undergo a stress test so that we can move forward,” Chris’ wife, Katie, wrote in an email to The Valley Indy.

Chris is currently in a hospital after falling ill earlier this week.

“This is incredible news for us, especially following a very difficult weekend,” Katie wrote.

Meanwhile, a lemonade fundraiser is scheduled for Sunday (May 3) from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 22 Beverly Drive in Ansonia. It is being organized by Nicole and Justin Jaffer. Proceeds from the lemonade sales will benefit the Matto family.

The drinks are just $2.
