Stephen Anthony Charles, 55, of Fairfield, CT, passed away unexpectedly on May 3, 2026. He is survived by his wife, Aimee White-Charles and daughter, Lillian White-Charles of Fairfield. He is also survived by his siblings David Charles (Tricia) of Kent, UK; Victoria Charles of London, UK; and Sally Charles of Hastings, UK; his father-in-law David White of Shelton; his brother-in-law Scott White (Jennifer) of Monroe; several nieces and nephews both in the US and UK. Steve also leaves behind his beloved dogs Gus and Toni, and an entire family of friends who held up his wife and daughter as they said goodbye. He was predeceased by his parents, Ronald Charles and Sara Layne; and his mother-in-law, Elizabeth White.
Steve was first and foremost an amazing husband and father who centered his every decision and intention on the well-being of his “girls” – Aimee and Lillian. An obnoxiously proud swim dad, driving instructor extraordinaire (whether on local roads or the dunes of Nauset Beach), and a loving and supportive presence in all aspects of the family’s life.
He was an extraordinary friend who never left a gathering without a sincere “love you guys” and was generous with his time to anyone in need of a favor or an ear. He was incredibly devoted to his in-laws and was selfless in his attention to their care. He was a true Englishman and dedicated Liverpool fan, but his life in America brought him new favorite teams including his beloved New York Yankees.
He was proud to work at Laithewaite’s/Direct Wines for over a decade, where he leaves customers and colleagues who valued his passion for wine, heart for service and quirky humor. Prior to that, Steve managed several fine dining restaurants and bars in New York City including Porter House New York, The Palm, and P.J. Clarke’s on the Hudson.
In keeping with Steve’s trademark generosity, he was an organ donor who has now helped extend the lives of others in need.
The family will hold a Celebration of Life on Sunday, May 17 at the family home from 4-7pm. Memorial Donations can be made in Steve’s memory to New York Pet Rescue at their website: ny-petrescue.org.
