DERBY — The Valley Indy spent a few minutes May 20 interviewing some volunteers marking military veterans’ graves with U.S. flags in advance of Memorial Day. 

It’s a tradition in Derby.

The work started around 8 a.m. Wednesday with temperatures of about 70 degrees, with a high expected to reach the upper 80s. There were four cemeteries in the city to canvas: Oak Cliff Cemetery on Hawthorne Avenue; St. Peter and St. Paul Ukrainian Greek Catholic Cemetery on Chatfield Street; St. Michael’s Cemetery on Silver Hill Road; and Mount St. Peter Cemetary on Route 34 in east Derby.
