Elizabeth Joann (Drauszewski) Peters, age 87 of Derby, died peacefully on May 23, 2026, at Waterbury-UCONN Hospital.

Born in Derby on August 16, 1938, she was the daughter of the late John and Catherine Mierzwa Drauszewski.

Elizabeth was a lifelong Derby resident, a 1950 graduate of Derby High School and a lifelong communicant of St. Michael Church of Derby.

Elizabeth worked in the meat department at Stop & Shop (21 years in Orange and 11 years in Ansonia) where she wrapped and prepared fresh meat for customers, until her retirement in 2016.

Elizabeth loved cooking and baking for every holiday.  Especially Easter, always preparing an epic spread that filled the dining room table before family, clergy and friends gathered together to bless and share the meal.

She was a passionate fan of the UCONN Men’s & Women’s basketball teams, college basketball and the WNBA.

Above all, Elizabeth devoted her life to caring for her family.  She was a loving mother, a compassionate caregiver to her brother, Roman, and a deeply devoted Baba to her grandson, Matthew, the true apple of her eye.

She is survived by her children, Harry Peters, Jr. of Derby and daughter, Joann Roy and her husband, Richard of Bristol; her treasured grandson, Matthew J. Roy of Bristol; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a sister, Anna Przybyloski; and brothers, Henry, Roman, John, Edward, Stanley and Lt. Col. Joseph Drauszewski.Family and friends may call on Friday, May 29, 2026 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at The Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia.  Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM.  Interment will follow in St. Michael Cemetery, Derby.  Online condolences may be made at www.wakeleememorial.com.
