Administrators Thursday will unveil “data dashboards” to track progress and problems in the school district.
Principals from each Derby school and Superintendent Stephen Tracy will be making presentations to the school board showing items such as test scores, attendance, disciplinary reports and the percentage of students involved in extra-curricular activities.
The school board wants a better look at what’s happening within the district and the data dashboards are a way to do it, Tracy said.
The current data will be compared to data from a month prior — and to a year prior, the superintendent said. The idea is to pinpoint trends and patterns.
“It’s important for the school board, as the policy-making body, to have a sense of how the schools are doing at any point in time,” Tracy said. “We want the community to know and I want to know. It allows us to celebrate and recognize things that are moving in the right direction and spot problems we need to act on.”
The data will be updated monthly and discussed at every school board meeting. Thursday’s school board meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Derby Middle School.
“The public will begin to see this data on a regular basis. They’ll begin to see how things are improving,” Tracy said.
