A vehicle involved in a street takeover in Shelton, according to police.

SHELTON — Police said a juvenile was seriously injured after being hit by a vehicle during a street takeover in the parking lot of 862 Bridgeport Ave. Sunday, Sept. 14.

Anyone with information — including any information on the vehicle shown in the photo above — should call the detective bureau at 203-924-0212.

Police and EMS were called to the parking lot at about 1:30 a.m. after receiving a report of a street takeover — a pre-planned gathering of a large number of vehicles whose drivers create chaos with their cars, often in pursuit of social media likes and views.

The vehicles took off when police arrived, leaving on the ground an injured youth hit by one of the cars.

He was taken to St. Vincent’s Hospital, according to a prepared statement from police.

No additional details were released.

Street takeovers have been disruptive in Derby and Ansonia, where people damaged a police car.

In response, state lawmakers passed tougher penalties to deter would-be hooligans.

On Monday, four state Senators, including Jason Perillo of Shelton, issued a statement calling what happened over the weekend “awful.”

“The mayhem in our communities must stop. We see it happening across our state on a frequent basis. Seriously injuring juveniles. Destroying property. Putting lives in danger,” the statement read. “More deterrents to the chaos on our streets must be put in place.”

The other senators in the statement were Stephen Harding, Henri Martin, and Paul Cicarella.
