DERBY – State Rep. Kara Rochelle is scheduled to host education forum 6 p.m. Oct. 16 at Derby City Hall, 1 Elizabeth St.

The forum will feature a presentation by the School + State Finance Project to help parents and guardians better understand how state education funding works, the increase in funding for schools in recent years, and where they can see the impacts of this investment.

Parents and guardians can ask questions, “learn more about how state dollars support their local classrooms, and hear what the legislature has done to strengthen our schools,” according to a press release on the forum.

Rochelle is a Democrat who represents Ansonia and Derby.

Rochelle is scheduled to be joined by state Rep. Jennifer Leeper (D-Fairfield), the House chair of the education committee; state Rep. Maryam Khan (D-Hartford), the House Chair of the special education subcommittee; state Rep. Mary Welander, a Democrat who represents Derby, and state Sen. Jorge Cabrera, who represents Ansonia and Derby.

“This year, the legislature took major steps to reform our special education system,” Khan said in a prepared statement. “We are making historic investments in students in special education, delivering better access to services, and providing cost controls and greater transparency. This event is perfect for parents looking to learn more.”
