Lillian C. Wannagot, age 96 of Shelton, beloved wife of the late Robert R. Wannagot, died peacefully on May 20, 2026 at Griffin Hospital with her family by her side. Born in Derby on January 24, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Charles J. and Gertrude H. Fowler Gavin. Mrs. Wannagot was born in Shelton, was raised in Derby and was a 1948 graduate of Derby High School. She worked as a quality control inspector for the Schick Corp. of Milford for over 23 years, until the time of her retirement in 1993. A Shelton resident for most of her life, she also resided in Monroe for 15 years. Mrs. Wannagot was a member of the Shelton, Derby and Ansonia Senior Centers, where she enjoyed playing pinochle  and traveling. A long-time communicant of St. Margaret Mary Church, Mrs. Wannagot was also a member of its Lady’s Guild.

She is survived by her devoted children, Robert D. (Judi) Wanagot of Port St. Lucie, FL, David B. (Potin) Wannagot of Yulee, FL, Gary A. (Carrie) Wannagot of Gilbert, AZ and Lisa M. Ottwell of Shelton; a daughter-in-law, Lori Wannagot of Branford; 15 cherished grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a son, James J. Wannagot; son-in-law, John Ottowell; her sisters, Joan Carrasquillo and Mary DiLisio; and brothers, William, Charles and Donald Gavin.

Family and friends may call on Wednesday, May 27, 2026 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia. Funeral services will take place on Thursday, May 28,2026 at 9:00 AM from the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Margaret Mary Church, 50 Donovan Lane, Shelton at 10:00 AM.
