Alyce Joy Merola, 71, of Derby, passed away in her home on the morning of June 24,
2026. A lifelong resident of Derby, Alyce was born in 1955 to Albert Louis and Gloria (Sutter) Merola.

She worked at Southbury Training School for over 20 years until her retirement. Alyce
took great pride and pleasure in her home and garden and particularly loved watching
the hummingbirds at her feeders. Alyce was the loving mother of Shane Morneau, who
predeceased her in 2011.

In addition to her son, Alyce was predeceased by her brothers, Mark and Paul Merola. She is survived by her longtime companion, José Hernandez of Beacon Falls, CT; sisters, Sharon Krystofik of Chandler, AZ, and Elaine Briscoe of New Haven, CT; brothers, Gary Merola of AZ and Albert Merola and his husband, James Balla, of Provincetown, MA. She was a loving aunt to nieces Corinne, Nichole, and Gabrielle; nephews Keith and Raymond; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

There will be a private interment at Oak Cliff Cemetery in Derby. The Wakelee
