SEYMOUR, CT: Joan Thomas passed into eternal rest on July 2nd after a long illness surrounded by her loving family. Born Joan Mary Angell on January 19, 1943, was the 6 of 8 children to Edna (Lapointe) Angell and David Angell Sr. in Waterbury CT.
Joan is survived by her husband Jamed Edward Thomas Sr of Seymour, son James Edward Thomas Jr of Naugatuck and daughter Kelly Lynn Taylor of Southbury along with her Brother Joseph Volz and Sister-in-Law Ruth Volz of Florida and Sister Ann (Angell) Burleigh-Willey of Texas, Sister in Law Mary Angell of Waterbury and sister- in- law Cheryl Angell of Florida along with many nieces and nephews, grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Joan was predeceased by her brothers David Angell Jr, Edward Angell, William Angell, James Angell and John Angell.
Joan earned an associate degree in psychology from Mattituck Community College in 1987; however, she did not go into the field. Having a passion for helping people, Joan worked at The Spooner House Homeless shelter in the early 1990’s and then moved to doing elder home care until she retired.
Joan will be remembered for always helping when and wherever she could, whether it be helping prepare a church fundraising meal, making soup for the homeless shelter meal or just lending an ear to listen.
A Memorial Service in celebration of Joan’s life will be held on July 18th at the Seymour United Methodist Church, 90 Pearl Street, Seymour. The Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 West Church Street, Seymour is entrusted with the arrangements.
