ANSONIA – No injuries were reported after a shed fire at the Slovak Club on Wakelee Avenue Sunday afternoon (July 12).

A call around 2:49 p.m. reported that a propane tank had exploded in a shed behind the club (109 Wakelee Ave). Firefighters directed the building’s occupants to leave the building, according to emergency radio broadcasts, since the shed was placed up against the building’s back walls.

When crews arrived, some cooking materials inside the shed were on fire. Firefighters placed a line into service and were able to control the flames. No major damage was reported to the building, although the wall was charred (visible in the photo above).

Firefighters reported on the radio that the fire was under control by around 3:01 p.m.

Deputy Chief Anthony DeLucia led the response, according to a Facebook post from the department.
