SEYMOUR – A woman whose body was found in the Housatonic River Saturday (July 11) died from suicide, police said. 

Seymour Police Chief John Bucherati said the 58-year-old woman was from outside the lower Naugatuck Valley. The Valley Indy is not reporting her hometown or name.

Police, fire and EMS were sent to the area of 179 Roosevelt Drive after a body was reported in the water. An investigation revealed the person had been in the water for six to eight hours, police said.

The person’s vehicle was found parked nearby.

The incident was reported at about 8 a.m.
