Bridgeport Man Charged In Fatal Shelton Crash

Shelton police have charged a second man with racing prior to a River Road crash that killed two people April 8.

Lawrence Carter, a 19-year-old from Bridgeport, surrendered to police Friday (June 22) after cops obtained a warrant charging him with two counts of first-degree manslaughter, two counts of negligent homicide with a motor vehicle, four counts of first-degree assault, and illegal racing on a highway.

Ansonia Renames Street In Honor Of Fallen Police Chief

ethan fry photo Daniel J. Hayes became the City of Ansonia’s first police chief in 1880.

But within months he would pay the ultimate sacrifice while protecting his fellow citizens after being shot while arresting a disorderly drunk.

Hayes died Dec. 27, 1880.

On Tuesday (May 15), the city honored his memory by renaming Railroad Avenue, where he was mortally wounded nearly 140 years ago, as Chief Daniel J. Hayes Drive.

Drug Charges Lodged In Ansonia

An Ansonia woman was arrested Thursday (April 19) after police investigating a burglary at her home last month allegedly found marijuana there.

According to a prepared statement from Ansonia Police Lt. Patrick Lynch, 37-year-old Heather Swanson reported the break-in at her Platt Street home March 8.
