WE’RE LOWERING THE WATER LEVEL OF LAKE HOUSATONIC

The water level of Lake Housatonic will be lowered on Sunday, June 10, 2018 beginning at 12:00 am, so that the Derby Dam can repair flashboards and perform routine maintenance.

Lowering the water level of Lake Housatonic is contingent upon river flow conditions as well as First Light Power Resources’ need to generate electricity at the time of the drawdown at its upstream dams.

Shelton’s Ruth Parkins Receives Flynn Humanitarian Award

Ruth Parkins received the 48th Charles H. Flynn Humanitarian Award May 31 at United Way’s 2018 VOLUNTEER CELEBRATION held at Villa Bianca in Seymour.

The award is the Valley’s oldest and most prestigious community service award, named for the late editor of The Evening Sentinel. It has been presented annually since 1971 for a lifetime of service to the community.

House Fire In Seymour

SEYMOUR — The fire marshal’s office in Seymour is investigating a fire that damaged a house Friday evening at 8 Clifton St.

No one was home when the fire started, according to initial emergency radio transmissions. Several dogs were rescued from the blaze. Seymour firefighters also responded to a small garage fire Thursday evening on Garden Street.

BMX Riders Deliver Anti-Bullying Message To Seymour

Photo by Rob Dyer This week Seymour’s Bungay Elementary School and Chatfield-LoPresti Elementary School’s 4th and 5th grade students got a special visit from the Dialed Action Sports Team, a professional action sports BMX bike stunt team based out of New Jersey.

The team was there to deliver a message that bullying isn’t cool, and making healthy choices will help allow students achieve their goals and dreams.
