Ruth Parkins received the 48th Charles H. Flynn Humanitarian Award May 31 at United Way’s 2018 VOLUNTEER CELEBRATION held at Villa Bianca in Seymour.
The award is the Valley’s oldest and most prestigious community service award, named for the late editor of The Evening Sentinel. It has been presented annually since 1971 for a lifetime of service to the community.

MILFORD — A Shelton man who shot his wife to death and left his children to discover her body will be sentenced to 25 years in prison this month.
The man, Thomas Infante, took a plea deal in the case moments before jury selection was to begin for a murder trial at Superior Court in Milford.

SHELTON — Four teens were arrested Thursday in connection to an attempted carjacking near Huntington Street.
According to police, a woman was in a car with her 13-year-old daughter when she stopped in the community center parking lot to mail a letter about 9 p.m.
After the woman got out of her car, a Subaru pulled up and a man got out.
