WE’RE LOWERING THE WATER LEVEL OF LAKE HOUSATONIC

The water level of Lake Housatonic will be lowered on Sunday, June 10, 2018 beginning at 12:00 am, so that the Derby Dam can repair flashboards and perform routine maintenance.

Lowering the water level of Lake Housatonic is contingent upon river flow conditions as well as First Light Power Resources’ need to generate electricity at the time of the drawdown at its upstream dams.

GOP Nominates McGorty For Re-Election

Last month, State Rep. Ben McGorty received the unanimous support from Republicans in the 122nd district to run for re-election.

“It has been an honor representing the residents of Shelton, Stratford, and Trumbull in Hartford,” said Rep. McGorty.  “Our communities are great places to grow up, start a family, and retire in, but over the past eight years, we have seen a decline, not just in our communities but throughout the state, of people wanting to settle down in Connecticut.  Residents and business are starting to move out to due backward policies implemented by the Malloy administration and his allies in the House and Senate.”

Shelton’s Ruth Parkins Receives Flynn Humanitarian Award

Ruth Parkins received the 48th Charles H. Flynn Humanitarian Award May 31 at United Way’s 2018 VOLUNTEER CELEBRATION held at Villa Bianca in Seymour.

The award is the Valley’s oldest and most prestigious community service award, named for the late editor of The Evening Sentinel. It has been presented annually since 1971 for a lifetime of service to the community.

Open House June 9 At Shelton History Center

The Shelton Historical Society is proud to announce that it has just received an Award of Merit from the Connecticut League of History Organizations for its interpretation of the Brownson House on the grounds of Shelton History Center, 70 Ripton Rd.

The public is invited to celebrate on Saturday, June 9, from noon to 4:00 p.m. during Connecticut Open House Day.
