A Video Tour Of The JR Payden Field House In Derby

Last week was The Great Give,” a 36-hour Internet fundraiser for more than 400 nonprofit groups in the region.

The Valley Indy conducted Facebook Live interviews with nonprofit leaders and local officials.

The interviews included a tour of J.R. Payden Field House, a roughly 90,000 square-foot structure under construction off Chatfield Street.

The roughly $4 million project (source) is being funded by donations from Joan Payden, whose father, Joseph R. Payden, graduated from Derby High School in 1915 at the top of his class.

Payden is the chief executive officer, president and founder of Payden and Rygel, a $110 billion asset management firm with offices all over the planet.

The project also includes a new baseball field. A new track and football field is being built next to the field house. The city is using a state grant to pay for that project.

The substantial completion” date for the field house project is June 13 (next month).

In this video from May 2, Rich Longhi, project manager with Turner Construction, and Derby School Superintendent Matthew Conway give The Valley Indy a tour.
