A 38-year-old man is due in court today after being charged with first-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor.
Limited information was available, but in a prepared statement from police said they received a complaint and obtained an arrest warrant Feb. 1 for Mauredson Chaves of Ansonia.
He was taken into custody in Bridgeport. Police said he was in a vehicle about to get onto Interstate 95 and that he has a passport and suitcase in the vehicle with him.
The victim was known to the suspect but specific details are being withheld to protect the victim’s identity.
